This project was to completely refurbish Ashburton Court, one of Hampshire County Council's main office buildings in Winchester, to provide flexible and efficient modern offices and functional space for building and service users. A number of options were considered, including major repair, refurbishment or total replacement. However, the refurbishment option offered the most cost effective approach and gave the County Council an opportunity to make efficiencies in the use of its offices. It was also possible through this medium to make major long-term energy savings through sensitive re-modelling and design. The new design incorporated features such as efficient insulation, double glazing, reduced energy consumption, natural ventilation and solar shading. The refurbishment also allowed for improved accessibility for staff, service users and members of the public.
