Corporate Social Responsibility - Community

Working with local communities

Alumet is an active member of the following groups which help the company to establish relationships within the local community:

  • BITC (Business in the Community)
  • FORCE (Forum for Constructing Excellence)
  • WMCCE (West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence)
  • RETA (Renewable Energy Technology Alliance)
  • Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce

These groups play a vital role in encouraging the employment of local labour and working with local partners. They also help to promote the construction industry at all levels, helping to develop the local economy, environment and society. Their contacts and support provide excellent local networking opportunities for Alumet, helping to ensure that the company spends its money locally where possible.

Supporting the education sector

Alumet supports the local education sector in the following ways:

  • Exhibiting at career events, where the company gives advice to local students trying to pursue a career in the construction industry.
  • Providing short term work experience for secondary school students.
  • Providing long term work experience for university students.

Supporting local groups

As well as raising funds for their chosen charity, Alumet also helps other local groups where possible. Recent community support has included:

  • Sponsoring the local Rugby Club by providing the team's kit.
  • Sponsoring flowers around the town via the Southam in Bloom scheme.
  • Sponsoring the literature costs for the local theatre group as well as the Scouts and Guides.
  • Providing free materials and labour for improvements to the local Scouts and Guides hut.
  • Providing free windows to the local village hall restoration.
  • Working with the Chamber of Commerce to provide free consultation, solar panels and triple glazed windows to a number of experimental eco-homes in Coventry.
  • Offering a 10% discount on our solar panels to all local residents (with a CV postcode).

Providing volunteering opportunities

Alumet encourages staff to volunteer for worthy causes. Recent activities have included:

  • Working with a charity called Link Romania to collect gifts for poverty stricken families in Romania for Christmas.
  • Hosting NSH Blood and Transplant sessions where staff are able to join the donors register.
  • Organising clothing collections for Coventry Homeless Shelter.

Annual Open Day

Each year we host an Open Day where members of the community are welcome to visit our headquarters and see what happens behind the scenes of the construction / manufacturing industry. The days feature numerous activities for members of the community to take part in, including a farmers market, family games, fundraising events and talks from celebrity guests.

Awards

Our commitment to the local community has been recognised with the Business Award for Community Support 2010.
